  • Professional discussion with your assessor (via Zoom)
  • Photos or videos of your work on site
  • Site documents such as programmes, reports or briefings
  • Witness testimonies where appropriate
  • Answers to knowledge questions where required

  • Your assessor will guide you step by step and map your evidence against the qualification criteria.
You will provide evidence from your normal day-to-day work on site. This may include:

  • Photos or videos of you supervising work
  • Programmes or schedules you are working to
  • RAMS, permits or briefings
  • Site diaries, reports or progress updates
  • Quality checks or inspection records
  • Evidence of coordinating subcontractors and resources

  • Your assessor will help you identify the best evidence based on your role.

During the professional discussion, your assessor will ask simple, practical questions based on your day-to-day role as a site supervisor or assistant site manager.

You are not expected to give textbook answers. You just need to explain what you actually do on site.

    Examples include:

How do you plan and coordinate work with different trades?

You might explain how you review the programme, organise sequencing, check RAMS and make sure everyone understands the plan for the day.

How do you monitor progress against the programme?

You might describe how you track daily progress, identify delays and work with trades to keep the job moving.

How do you manage health and safety on your work area?

You might talk about carrying out checks, stopping unsafe work and making sure controls like PPE and permits are in place.

How do you check the quality of work?

You might explain how you compare work against drawings and specifications, carry out inspections and deal with snags.

How do you deal with delays or problems on site?

You might describe how you assess the issue, coordinate with trades and adjust the plan while keeping the site manager informed.

How do you make sure trades have the right materials, equipment and information?

You might explain how you plan ahead, confirm deliveries and make sure everything is in place so work can continue without disruption.

Your assessor will guide the discussion and help you explain your answers clearly. Everything is based on your real experience.

The Level 4 NVQ in Construction Site Supervision is a flexible, work-based qualification.

At CADUK, most candidates complete in 4–12 weeks using our fast-track assessment approach.

You will have up to 12 months to complete the NVQ if needed.

The exact duration depends on your experience, how quickly you provide evidence and how regularly you engage with your assessor.

This NVQ can be completed quickly because it is based on your existing competence. If you are already working as a site supervisor or assistant site manager and can clearly explain your responsibilities, there is no need for lengthy written answers or unnecessary evidence. Unlike many providers, we do not require:

    • Written assignments
    • Long written answers
    • Classroom attendance
    • Site visits

Instead, we assess your knowledge and competence through professional discussion, based on your real work on site. This allows experienced supervisors to complete much faster, typically within 4–12 weeks.

Once you complete the Level 4 NVQ and pass the CITB Health, Safety and Environment 'Specialist' Test, you can apply for the Gold CSCS Supervisor Card.

This card proves your competence as a supervisor and is required for many roles in construction.

If you are not currently working and do not hold a valid CSCS card, you can still get started. Once you are registered for this NVQ and have passed the CITB 'Specialist' Health, Safety and Environment Test, you can apply for the Red Experienced Technical, Supervisor or Manager (TSM) CSCS Card. This card allows you to return to site while completing your NVQ. It shows that you are:

    • Experienced in a supervisory role
    • Approved for the NVQ
    • Registered and actively working towards it

Once back on site, you can gather the evidence needed to complete your NVQ and upgrade to the Gold CSCS Supervisor Card. To qualify, you must:

    • Be registered for the Level 4 NVQ
    • Have relevant supervisory experience
    • Have passed the CITB Health, Safety and Environment Test within the last two years

The card is valid for three years and cannot be renewed.

If your employer is registered with CITB and meets the eligibility criteria, they may be able to claim a grant towards the cost of this NVQ.

Grant values and eligibility are set by CITB and can change, so we recommend checking directly with CITB or speaking to our team for the latest information.

We can provide the information your employer needs to support a grant claim.

When you click the “Book Your NVQ Now” button, you will be taken to a short online application form.

This form gives us an overview of your job role, experience and the type of work you carry out on site. It also includes simple examples of the kind of evidence you may need, such as photos, videos or basic site documents.

Once you submit the form, one of our assessors will give you a call. This is a free, no-obligation call to make sure the NVQ is suitable for you. During this call, the assessor will:

    • Confirm your current role and responsibilities
    • Check your experience and level of supervision
    • Make sure you have access to suitable evidence
    • Answer any questions you have about the process

This step is important because NVQs are based on real competence. We only enrol candidates who are in the right role and can realistically achieve the qualification.

If the assessor confirms that the NVQ is suitable for you, you can choose to enrol and start at any time.

There is no pressure to continue if you decide not to go ahead.

We have been assessing construction NVQs since 2011 and have supported thousands of supervisors and managers across the UK.

Our approach is designed around experienced professionals who are already doing the job. This means the process is practical, efficient and based on real site activity rather than classroom learning or written coursework.

With CADUK, you will benefit from:

    • A fast-track, discussion-based assessment process
    • Clear guidance on exactly what evidence is needed
    • A simple, drag-and-drop ePortfolio system designed in-house
    • Flexible assessment that fits around your job
    • No unnecessary written assignments or coursework

We work with both individuals and employers across the UK, including major contractors, local authorities and specialist construction companies. Our clients include organisations such as Mace, Skanska, Willmott Dixon, Kier, ENGIE, Network Rail, BAM and Laing O’Rourke.

This experience allows us to deliver a structured, straightforward NVQ process that is focused on helping you complete efficiently while meeting all assessment requirements.
