CITB Grants for Construction NVQs

Eligible CITB-registered employers may be able to claim grant funding when employees complete selected construction NVQs with CADUK.

CADUK is part of the CITB Training Provider Network. This page explains the Short Qualification Grant in simple terms, who may be eligible, which CADUK NVQs may be covered, and what employers need to check before enrolment.

Grant rules can change, so employers should always confirm current eligibility with CITB before relying on grant funding.

£600 grant per NVQ

CITB-registered employers may be eligible to claim up to £600 for an eligible completed NVQ.

How CITB grant funding works for NVQs

CITB-registered employers may be eligible to claim a grant of up to £600 when an employee completes an eligible construction-related NVQ with CADUK under the CITB Short Qualification Grant scheme.

The grant is paid per learner, per NVQ achieved, after the qualification has been completed and certificated. The employer makes the claim directly to CITB, and any payment is made by CITB directly to the employer.

Employers must normally be CITB-registered and up to date with levy returns, even where they are exempt from levy payment.

Key points for employers

Which CADUK NVQs may be eligible?

CITB funding and grant rules can change, and not every NVQ is covered by the Short Qualification Grant. Employers should always check the latest CITB guidance and confirm the specific qualification is eligible before the candidate enrols.

Eligible

Construction-specific NVQs at Levels 2 to 6 are usually covered under the CITB Short Qualification Grant where the employer is CITB-registered, levy-compliant and the qualification appears on CITB’s current approved list.

Not normally eligible

Health and safety NVQs are not normally covered because they are not construction-specific qualifications under the CITB Short Qualification Grant rules.

Level 7 update

Level 7 NVQs in construction were previously covered, but CITB changed the rules from January 2026. New Level 7 registrations are no longer normally eligible for the Short Qualification Grant.

How to claim the CITB grant

The claim is normally handled by the employer after the eligible NVQ has been achieved. CADUK can provide qualification information, but the grant claim itself is made directly through CITB.

1. Check eligibility

Confirm that your business is CITB-registered, your levy position is up to date and the chosen NVQ is currently eligible for grant funding.

2. Complete the NVQ

The candidate completes their NVQ with CADUK through workplace evidence, ePortfolio upload and professional discussion with their assessor.

3. Submit the claim

After completion and certification, the employer submits the grant claim directly to CITB. CITB pays eligible grant funding to the employer.

Previously, eligible employers could use the Employer Network route to access significant funding support towards NVQ costs, with the employer paying part of the fee and CITB funding the remaining balance.
