This Level 6 NVQ in Construction Site Management is for experienced people already managing live construction work on site. It is designed for site managers who need a recognised, work-based qualification that supports the Black CSCS Manager Card and MCIOB membership.
It covers the real day-to-day responsibilities of site management, including planning and preparing the site, organising labour and subcontractors, managing plant, materials and logistics, controlling progress against programme, maintaining quality standards, overseeing health and safety, and managing project handover at the end of the job.
You must already be working in the role and able to provide evidence from your day-to-day site management duties. Assessment is fully remote and discussion-based, with one-to-one support and simple online meetings through Zoom. The qualification is also eligible for the £600 CITB Short Qualification Grant for eligible CITB-registered employers.
This qualification is for experienced site managers who are already responsible for running work on site. It is usually suitable for people who:
If your role is mainly focused on managing live construction work on site, this is usually the right route. If your role is more office-based, commercial, surveying or spread across multiple projects, the Level 6 NVQ in Construction Contracting Operations Management may be more suitable.

This qualification proves your competence in the day-to-day job of a site manager on a real construction project. It covers the practical side of site management, from planning and preparing the site through to coordinating labour, plant, materials and subcontractors, monitoring progress, maintaining standards and managing handover at the end of the job.
Most of what you will be assessed on is the work you already do every day. That includes reviewing drawings and project information, confirming work methods, organising teams and resources, controlling progress against programme, managing quality, health and safety, and keeping communication and records in place across the site.
Everything you submit comes straight from your normal day-to-day work on site. There are no written assignments, no exams and no theory tests.
Most experienced site managers already have much of the evidence they need in their normal paperwork, site records and management responsibilities. Your assessor will help you identify the best evidence from the work you already do.

For experienced candidates who already have strong site evidence available, the process can move more quickly.
No. There are no written assignments, no exams and no classroom sessions. Everything is assessed through your normal day-to-day work on site, along with a simple one-to-one discussion with your assessor on Zoom.
No, everything is done online. You’ll upload your evidence, such as programmes, RAMS, site documents, photos and other project records, into the CADUK ePortfolio with support from your assessor throughout.
Yes. Once you pass the Level 6 NVQ Diploma in Construction Site Management and the CITB Health, Safety and Environment Test for Managers and Professionals, you can apply for your Black CSCS Manager Card. If you need to get back on site while completing the NVQ, you can apply for the Red CSCS Experienced Technical, Supervisor or Manager Card once you are enrolled onto the NVQ.
Yes. This qualification supports MCIOB membership and is often used by experienced site managers who want a recognised route that supports both their card and professional progression.
Level 4 is more suited to site supervisors and assistant site managers with supervisory responsibility on site. Level 6 is aimed at site managers with broader responsibility for planning, managing and delivering work on live construction projects.
The Level 6 NVQ in Construction Site Management is usually for people managing live work on site, including labour, plant, materials, subcontractors, programme, quality and health and safety. Construction Contracting Operations Management is more suited to people whose role is more office-based, commercial, surveying or spread across multiple projects.
Yes. This NVQ is eligible for the £600 CITB Short Qualification Grant. This is only applicable to eligible CITB-registered employers, who can claim the grant after you complete the qualification.
