The Level 6 NVQ Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety Practice is for people who manage, advise on or take responsibility for health and safety in the workplace.
It is a recognised work-based qualification, suitable for experienced professionals who are already carrying out health and safety duties as part of their normal role. This may include developing and reviewing policies, carrying out risk assessments, monitoring workplace conditions, investigating incidents, delivering briefings, supporting managers and improving safety performance.
This qualification provides access to the Certified IOSH membership (CertIOSH) and enables candidates working in a construction-based role to apply for the Black CSCS card.
The assessment is based on the work you already do, using your normal project evidence and structured one-to-one discussions with your assessor on Zoom. There are no written assignments, no exams and no classroom sessions.

Yes. This qualification provides a route toward Certified IOSH membership, subject to IOSH’s current membership requirements. IOSH may require evidence of relevant experience and CPD as part of the application process.
Yes, where your role is construction-related, this NVQ can support a Black CSCS Manager Card application. You will also need to pass the CITB Health, Safety and Environment ‘Managers and Professionals’ (MAP) test.
