Construction Supervision NVQs for Site Supervisors, Foremen and Gangers

Your NVQ is assessed through the work you already do, not through classroom learning or long written assignments. You will provide evidence from your real job and take part in relaxed, structured professional discussions with your assessor over Zoom.

If you already do the job, this route usually feels far more natural than slower assessment models built around paperwork and written tasks.

You are assessed on your real competence as a working supervisor, not on how good you are at writing assignments. Your assessor will ask you about genuine site situations, your role in managing the work, how you communicate with the workforce, and how your evidence supports what you do.

For confident, experienced candidates, that makes the process feel more relevant, more engaging and much quicker to complete.

Yes, many experienced candidates do complete within 4 weeks or less.

The key factors are your existing experience, how confident you are discussing your role, and how quickly you can upload the evidence your assessor asks for. If you already supervise work every day and can clearly talk through your responsibilities, the process can move very quickly.

You will still have up to 12 months to complete the qualification if needed, but most candidates finish much sooner.

After that, one of our assessors will give you a quick call to confirm that the NVQ is suitable and achievable based on your experience and responsibilities, this session is free and non-commital.

If everything is a good fit, we will send over the invoice and you can start as soon as you are ready.

Your evidence will come from the work you already do as a site supervisor, foreman or ganger. This might include items such as:

• a short site-tour video

• a video of you giving a briefing or toolbox talk

• photos of work you are supervising

• site diaries, work allocation sheets or daily records

• quality checks, snagging records or inspection notes

• emails, messages or other records showing how you coordinate and supervise work

Your assessor will guide you throughout and explain exactly what types of evidence are most suitable for your NVQ, so you are not left guessing.

Yes. Every candidate is supported by an assessor on a one-to-one basis throughout the process.

You will not be left to work everything out on your own. Your assessor will explain the qualification, agree a plan with you, review your evidence, hold your professional discussions, and guide you step by step through to completion.

That personal support is a big part of why the process feels so straightforward for experienced candidates.

Most supervisors complete their NVQ within 2 to 8 weeks, and many experienced candidates finish within 4 weeks or less.

The timescale depends mainly on how quickly you can provide evidence, how responsive you are during the process, and how closely your current role matches the qualification.

You will have up to 12 months to complete the NVQ if needed, although most candidates do not need anywhere near that long.

Employers who are CITB-registered can claim a CITB Short Qualification Grant of £600 per employee once the NVQ is completed. The payment is made directly to the employer to help cover training costs.

CADUK is also an approved ELCAS training provider, which means serving and former members of the Armed Forces can use their Enhanced Learning Credits (ELC) to fund one of our NVQs.

To apply for the Gold CSCS Card, you will need to complete the relevant Supervisor NVQ and pass the CITB Health, Safety and Environment Specialist Supervisory test.

If you are applying for the Red TSM Card while completing your NVQ, the same test requirement applies.

Yes. If you have passed the relevant CITB Health, Safety and Environment 'Specialist'' Test and are officially registered on your NVQ, you can apply for the Red Experienced Technical, Supervisor or Manager (TSM) CSCS Card.

This temporary card allows you to continue working on site while you complete your qualification. Once you finish the NVQ, you can then upgrade to the Gold CSCS Card.

The right NVQ depends on your actual role and level of responsibility on site.

Some candidates are best suited to a Level 3 route such as Occupational Work Supervision, while others are better matched to a Level 4 supervision qualification if they have broader responsibility for site operations, coordination and control.
