The Level 6 NVQ Diploma in Construction Contracting Operations Management is designed for experienced construction professionals working in commercial, technical and operational roles.
This includes roles such as quantity surveyors, estimators, buyers, planners, project managers, technical coordinators and directors. Candidates may be site-based, office-based, or split between both, depending on their role.
The qualification reflects your ability to manage construction processes, control costs, coordinate design and procurement, and support project delivery across the full construction lifecycle.
This NVQ is completed entirely through your existing job role. There are no exams, no classroom sessions and no written assignments. Instead, you will provide evidence from your live projects and complete professional discussions with your assessor.
Your assessor will guide you step by step, using your real work to demonstrate your competence in a structured and straightforward way.
Most candidates complete the qualification within 4 to 12 weeks, depending on their experience and how quickly they can provide suitable evidence.
Successful completion allows you to apply for the Black CSCS Card.
This qualification is suitable for experienced construction professionals working in roles such as:
• Quantity surveyors
• Estimators
• Buyers and procurement managers
• Planners and schedulers
• Project managers
• Technical coordinators
• Commercial managers
• Directors of construction companies
You must already be working in a role where you are responsible for managing construction processes, resources or commercial activities.
This NVQ reflects the real responsibilities of professionals involved in managing construction operations, commercial processes and project coordination.
Typical duties include:
• Managing procurement and supply chain activities
• Preparing and reviewing programmes and project schedules
• Monitoring costs, budgets and commercial performance
• Coordinating design, technical and construction information
• Managing subcontractors, suppliers and contract packages
• Supporting site teams with planning, logistics and delivery
• Resolving technical, commercial or coordination issues
Your assessment will be based around these types of real responsibilities.
Your assessment is based entirely on your normal job. There are no exams, no classroom sessions and no written coursework.
At CADUK, we use a structured, discussion-based approach designed for experienced professionals.
You will complete the NVQ through:
• Professional discussions with your assessor via Zoom
• Real project documents such as programmes, procurement records, cost reports and technical information
• Photos or screenshots showing your involvement in planning, coordination or commercial activities
• Evidence of how you manage processes, resources, risks and project delivery
• Witness testimony from a manager or senior colleague
Your assessor will guide you step by step and explain exactly what to upload.
Below are examples of the type of practical questions an assessor may ask during your professional discussion. You only need to explain what you actually do.
Assessor: How do you make sure procurement activities do not delay the programme?
Candidate: I review the programme, check lead times, speak with suppliers early and place orders in advance. I also update the team if anything changes so we can adjust before it impacts progress.
Assessor: How do you manage cost control on your projects?
Candidate: I monitor committed costs against the budget, track variations, review supplier quotes and flag any risks early so decisions can be made.
Assessor: What checks do you carry out before awarding a subcontract package?
Candidate: I review scope, drawings and specifications, confirm programme dates, check commercial terms and make sure health and safety requirements are covered.
Assessor: How do you deal with coordination issues between trades or suppliers?
Candidate: I review drawings and programme information, speak with the teams involved, agree a solution and update the plan so the issue is resolved properly.
Assessor: How do you support site teams with technical or design issues?
Candidate: I review the problem, check drawings or engineering details, speak with designers if needed and help agree a solution before work continues.
Most of your evidence will come directly from your day-to-day work. Nothing needs to be created specifically for the NVQ.
Your assessor will help you choose evidence that naturally fits your role.
